Our Story

In 1981, Pete Butt (Bob's older brother) started Central Wisconsin's very first PADI (Professional Association of Dive Instructors) Dive Center inside of Hunters Corner in downtown Stevens Point.  Bob started scuba diving in 1978 and in 1982 he became a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, joining his brother Pete as instructors and managers of the diveshop. As Pete moved to Florida, Bob opted to continue his college education in Stevens Point and settled down in what would be his new hometown.

Hunters Corner closed their doors in 1984 and by 1985,  Bob had opened Divepoint Scuba on Post Road in Plover.  A few months after opening the new store he met Carrie, and they were married in 1987. Divepoint relocated three times in the Plover area before moving to Isadore Street in 1990.  In 1994 Bob and Carrie took a scuba diving trip to Hawaii and fell in love with kayaking.  Wanting to add a kayak line, but short of space, Divepoint then returned to Historic Downtown Stevens Point, just across the street from where it all began.

Divepoint Scuba has evolved into an outdoor adventure center with scuba, snorkeling, swimwear, backpacking, camping,  and rock climbing equipment. Divepoint Scuba has been at its current location in Historic Downtown Stevens Point since 1999.
